For the second time in his career, Yakob Ekoue from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has been recognized as a national athlete of the year. Ekoue was named the NCAA Division III Men's Field Athlete of the Year for the 2025 outdoor season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Ekoue had previously won this award in 2023. He is among only two field athletes from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to have received this honor twice during an outdoor season, joining former teammate Marcus Weaver.
This season, Ekoue secured a second consecutive national championship in discus at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships, setting a new facility record. He also earned third place in both shot put and hammer throw, achieving All-America honors in these events. His performance contributed 22 points to his team, aiding them in finishing as national runner-up.
Earlier in the year, Ekoue claimed a WIAC title in discus and holds school records in both discus and hammer throw. Throughout his career with the Blugolds, he amassed 13 All-America honors and four national championships.
