For the second time, Yakob Ekoue from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has been recognized as the Most Outstanding Field Performer at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. The announcement was made by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Ekoue previously received this award in 2023. The accolade is determined through a formula that includes team points scored, meet records, seasonal bests, and facility records at the NCAA Championships.
In this year's championships, Ekoue accumulated 23 points according to the formula. He secured a national title in discus with a new facility record throw of 58.17 meters. Additionally, he achieved third place in both shot put and hammer throw events, earning All-America honors for each.
Ekoue is one of only two athletes to have won this award twice at outdoor national championships, joining fellow Blugold alumnus Marcus Weaver. The award was established in 2015.
Throughout his career with the Blugolds, Ekoue became a four-time national champion and received All-America honors 13 times. His achievements place him among the top 10 in Division III history for total All-America honors.
