The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's golf team is leading the standings after the first day of the WIAC Championship at Lake Arrowhead in Nekoosa, Wisconsin. The Blugolds have entered two five-player teams into the tournament, and they currently occupy the top two positions.
Although this tournament is considered an unofficial WIAC Championship due to the conference not sponsoring men's golf, it still holds significant importance for the participants.
One of UW-Eau Claire's squads has taken a substantial lead, finishing Day 1 at 6 under par. The second squad follows in second place with a score of 7 over par.
Individually, Alec Sosnowski from Verona, Wisconsin, leads with a score of 67, putting him at 5 strokes under par. Fred Moede from Savage, Minnesota, is tied for second place at 3 under par. Both golfers are part of the leading team.
Nick Amtmann from Nashotah, Wisconsin, heads the other Blugold squad and stands in fourth place individually at 1 under par. Other notable performances include Luke Taebel from Holmen, Wisconsin, who is even par and tied for fifth; Braeden Resnick from Rice Lake, Wisconsin, who is 2 over par in ninth; and Nick Mueller from Baldwin, Wisconsin, who is tied for tenth at 3 over par.
On the second Blugold team, Ben Pausha shares fifth place with an even-par score. Spencer Lynch from Neenah, Wisconsin, and Owen Covey from New Richmond, Wisconsin are both tied for twelfth at 4 over par. Corey Boerner from Bloomington, Minnesota rounds out their scores in fifteenth place at 5 over par.
Round two of the tournament will commence on Tuesday morning at Lake Arrowhead starting at 8 a.m.
