The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Athletic Department is mourning the loss of Mike Sullivan, known as the "Voice of the Blugolds." Sullivan, a broadcasting figure for over three decades, passed away on Monday at 75.

Sullivan was a fixture in Blugold sports, providing radio commentary for football, basketball, and hockey since 1978. He began his career with WBIZ Radio, where he served as sports director. His dedication to promoting UW-Eau Claire Athletics earned him the Jim Mueller Blugold Spirit Award in 2013.

In his effort to enhance sports coverage, Sullivan coordinated with other stations to offer telephone lines for visiting networks, reducing costs and ensuring comprehensive game coverage. With the advent of the internet, he expanded the reach of Blugold broadcasts to alumni worldwide through live streaming.

Over the years, Sullivan formed lasting connections with UWEC students and athletes, often developing friendships while traveling with teams to away games. His contributions to the field were recognized with his induction into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2015.

Sullivan's family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support his medical and funeral expenses. A celebration of his life will take place on May 1 at Saving Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Visitation will be at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 1 p.m.
