The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team secured a significant victory against Hamline University, with a final score of 23-3. This match, held at the Sonnentag Fieldhouse, marked their first win in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) for the season.
UW-Eau Claire's record now stands at 4-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Reegan Werner played a pivotal role in this triumph by contributing eight points through five goals. Her performance helped lead the team's offense to its second-highest scoring game of the season.
The match was initially balanced with both teams scoring one goal each early on. However, Paige Kiani ignited a sequence of 13 consecutive goals for UW-Eau Claire, which continued throughout most of the first half. The Blugolds were particularly dominant in the second quarter, where Jess Stiller scored three times and Samantha Burns added two more goals.
Throughout the third quarter, UW-Eau Claire managed to keep Hamline scoreless while adding five more goals to their tally. Both Kiani and Werner found success twice during this period. Werner continued her strong performance into the fourth quarter with two additional goals.
Alexie Romanelli contributed significantly as well, accumulating six points from four goals and two assists. Ellie Fisher also made an impact with five points from two goals and three assists. Other notable performances came from Burns, Victoria Shea, Stiller, and Kiani who each ended with three points.
Goalkeeper Alexandria Shea was instrumental in defense by making eight saves during the game. The team also excelled in clear attempts with a perfect 16 for 16 record.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will continue its WIAC schedule against the College of Saint Benedict on April 2nd at Saint Joseph, Minnesota.
