The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team concluded their East Coast Spring Break trip with a nonconference match against Marymount University on Saturday. The game ended in a decisive 18-6 loss for the Blugolds, largely due to Marymount's strong offensive performance.
Marymount started the game strongly, scoring six goals within the first nine minutes. Ellie Fisher from Stillwater, Minnesota, scored the first goal for the Blugolds with just over five minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Alexie Romanelli of Naperville, Illinois, added another goal shortly after at the 3:58 mark, cutting Marymount's lead to 6-2. Romanelli's goal was notable as it came during a player advantage; Eau Claire capitalized on all four penalties committed by Marymount.
Devin Crews from St. Louis, Missouri, contributed a third goal for Eau Claire before the end of the first quarter. However, by that time they trailed 7-3.
In the following quarters, Eau Claire managed only one goal per quarter. Reagan Werner extended her scoring streak to three games with a second-quarter goal. Jess Stiller scored in both the third and fourth quarters but Marymount maintained control by outscoring Eau Claire 11-3 over these periods.
Assists were provided by Reagan Werner and Victoria Shea from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin/Indian Trail High School. Offensive leaders Romanelli, Crews, Werner and Stiller each had two shots on goal.
Alexandria Shea also from Pleasant Prairie had twelve saves while defending UW-Eau Claire's net.
Looking ahead—the Blugolds will return home for their next game against Hamline University as part of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action set for Wednesday March 26th at Sonnentag Fieldhouse starting at 5 p.m., which will be designated Youth Day event.
