Simpson Field | UW-Eau Claire Blugolds
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team faced challenges in the initial matches of their spring break trip to Florida. The team lost both duals on Monday, falling to No. 37 Hope College with a score of 4-3 and Trinity College (Conn.) by 5-2.
In the first match against Hope College, the Blugolds managed to win seven matches throughout the day. In doubles play, Téa Armstrong and Beatriz Felchak secured a victory in the No. 3 doubles match with a score of 7-6. However, Hope College claimed the overall team point by winning two out of three doubles matches.
During singles competition, Samantha Fuchs triumphed in the No. 1 flight with scores of 6-2, 7-5. Liv Herzog won her match at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-2, 6-4, while Reese Burton emerged victorious at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-1, 4-6, and a third-set tiebreaker.
In their second match against Trinity College, Fuchs and Anna Lee won the No. 1 doubles match after their opponents retired. Despite this win, Trinity secured the doubles team point as it was UW-Eau Claire's only doubles victory.
Herzog and Burton were successful again in singles play against Trinity, winning at No. 3 and No. 4 positions respectively. Herzog won in straight sets while Burton clinched her win through a third-set tiebreaker.
The Blugolds are set to continue their competition on Tuesday, March 18th with two more duals scheduled against William Smith at Lake Cane Tennis Center in the morning and Denison University at USTA National Campus in the evening.
