The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's men's track and field team has a new accolade to celebrate. Freshman Johnny Botsch from Brookfield, Wisconsin, was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year for the 2025 indoor season. The announcement came as part of the WIAC's release of its indoor awards on Friday.

Botsch distinguished himself by winning the conference title in pole vaulting on February 28, achieving a height of 5.06 meters. This performance not only earned him the top spot but also set a new school record for the event. His achievement marks him as the first Blugolds' men's indoor pole vault WIAC champion since 2022.

His record-setting 5.06-meter vault was also noted as the best by any WIAC athlete during this indoor season.
