The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team achieved a notable performance at the Region VII Championships held in Augsburg, securing a third-place finish. This result ensures that three wrestlers from the team will advance to the NCAA Division III Championships.

Ian Pepple, Zach Sato, and Jared Stricker earned their spots at nationals by finishing in the top three of their respective weight classes. Stricker emerged as the 174-pound regional champion, marking his third regional title. He is set to compete at the NCAA Championships for the fourth time and aims to defend his national title.

Sato and Pepple both placed third in their categories, with Sato competing in the 149-pound class and Pepple in the 197-pound class. This marks Sato's third appearance at nationals, while Pepple will make his debut.

The Blugolds accumulated 144.5 points during the tournament. UW-La Crosse led with 192.5 points, followed by Augsburg with 186 points.

Stricker maintained an undefeated record this season with two additional victories in his bracket on Saturday. He overcame Carson Trotzer from UW-Stevens Point and Seth Goetzinger from Augsburg to claim his title.

Sato experienced a setback against Aidan Ruddy from Concordia Moorhead but recovered with two wins in wrestlebacks to secure his place at nationals. His victory over Josh Cherba from UW-La Crosse was decisive.

Pepple faced defeat against Parker Venz from Augsburg but triumphed twice in consolation matches to earn his spot at nationals. His swift pin against Logan Neitzel from UW-Stevens Point highlighted his performance.

All ten Blugold wrestlers placed at the tournament, contributing to their overall success.

The NCAA Championships are scheduled for March 14-15 in Providence, Rhode Island, where Pepple, Sato, and Stricker will represent their team on a national stage.
