The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's men's and women's track and field teams concluded their participation in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships at UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. The women's team secured second place with 106.5 points, while the men's team finished in fourth place with 75.5 points. UW-La Crosse claimed victory in both categories, scoring 287.5 points for the women and 217.5 for the men.
Kayla Behnke from Appleton, a senior at UW-Eau Claire, achieved a notable victory by winning the women's weight throw conference championship with her season-best toss of 18.86 meters, surpassing her closest competitor by over half a meter.
Several Blugold athletes delivered strong performances on Saturday. Emilee Booker took second place in the pentathlon, while Max Foland secured third place in the heptathlon. Blake Postler earned second place in the men's 60-meter hurdles, and Mason Shea was runner-up in the men's 3,000-meter run.
In relay events, the women's 4x400-meter team consisting of Kylee Grabarski, McKenzie Kruse, Allyson Kakes, and Mya Cinnamo also captured second place honors. Wes Keller tied for third in the men's high jump competition, and Anna Thaler placed third in the women's triple jump.
The Blugolds will compete next at the UW-La Crosse Last Chance Meet on March 8 as they prepare for their final opportunity to qualify for NCAA Championships.
