The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team concluded their regular season on Saturday with a game against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The matchup was part of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). Despite efforts in rebounding and scoring in the final quarter, UW-Eau Claire fell to Whitewater with a score of 65-56, ending their 2024-25 season.
UW-Whitewater, ranked No. 24, outscored UW-Eau Claire 10-7 in the first quarter. The Warhawks ended the period on a significant run. In the second quarter, the Blugolds focused on scoring within the paint but were hindered by Whitewater's effective free throw performance, resulting in a five-point lead for Whitewater at halftime.
In the third quarter, Eau Claire capitalized on turnovers and second-chance points but struggled defensively in the paint, which led to an increased deficit. Although they outscored Whitewater in the fourth quarter, it was insufficient to change the outcome.
Reanna Hutchinson led UW-Eau Claire with 14 points during her time on court. Anna Koth and Kyla Overskei followed closely with 13 points each. Overall, UW-Eau Claire shot 36% from the field compared to Whitewater's 51%. They did manage to secure more rebounds than their opponents.
The Blugolds finished their season with an overall record of 8-17 and placed seventh in their conference standings, just missing qualification for the WIAC Tournament.
