The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team secured a place in the semifinals of the Commissioner's Cup Tournament after defeating Northland College 4-0 on Saturday. The game, held at home, marked the second match in the quarterfinal series.
UW-Eau Claire (12-14-1, 8-6) started strong with Kyler Grundy scoring less than three minutes into the game. This goal was his third of the season and gave the Blugolds an early lead. Throughout the game, UWEC outshot Northland 45-15 and capitalized on their powerplay opportunities by going one for five.
After a scoreless second period, UW-Eau Claire scored three more goals within the first eight minutes of the final period. Grundy added another goal at 3:04 in the third period, marking his fourth goal of the season. Jordan Randall and Dayne Hoyord scored just 16 seconds apart to secure their team's victory. Kyle Bauer and Kyle Oleksiuk each contributed two assists during the match.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will face UW-Stevens Point in a two-game semifinal series scheduled for February 28 and March 1 at K.B. Willett Arena, with both games set to begin at 7 p.m.
