Blugolds prepare for WIAC tournament after regular season finale loss

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team concluded their regular season on Saturday with a home game against UW-Whitewater. The Blugolds faced a strong Whitewater offense, which shot 46% from the field and made eight three-pointers in the first half, resulting in UWEC's ninth loss of the season.

In the early part of the game, UW-Eau Claire (16-9, 8-6) trailed by nine points within twelve minutes as the Warhawks took a 23-14 lead after making four shots from beyond the arc.

Carter Huschka led Eau Claire with 23 points and 13 rebounds, marking his sixth double-double this year. The Blugolds excelled in fast break points, outscoring Whitewater 15-6. Despite improving their shooting to 37% in the second half, they were narrowly outscored 37-36, leading to a final defeat by fifteen points.

Andre Renta contributed significantly with 18 points and four rebounds during the game.

Looking ahead, the Blugolds have secured the No. 3 seed in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament and are set to host UW-Oshkosh on Monday, February 24 at the Sonnentag Event Center. The game will start at 7 p.m., coinciding with Chippewa Valley Fan Appreciation Night where fans can attend for free. Tickets are available at the door or prior at The Sonnentag Box Office.
