Dronen leads UW-Eau Claire to playoff victory with hat trick

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team secured a significant victory in the first game of the Commissioner's Cup Quarterfinal Round. Facing Northland College, the Blugolds emerged with an 8-1 win on Friday.

Max Dronen, a freshman from Moorhead, Minnesota, was instrumental in this success by scoring a natural hat trick within the first period. His three goals came within just 11 minutes.

Other contributors to the scoreline included Carter Green and Kade Peterson, who extended Eau Claire's lead to five goals during the second period with two quick goals only 12 seconds apart. Northland College managed to score their sole goal at 12:22 in the second period.

Eau Claire continued their dominance into the third period with additional goals from Max Ruoho, Connor Szmul, and Dayne Hoyord. These players were part of a group that collected multiple points throughout the game.

In goal for Eau Claire was Ethan Roberts, who made 21 saves contributing to his team's victory.

The Blugolds are set to face Northland College again on Saturday for game two of the quarterfinals at Hobbs Ice Arena. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
