The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team concluded its regular season with a 4-2 win over UW-Stout on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. This victory secured the Blugolds the No. 3 seed in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament, presented by Culver's.
In this match, four different players contributed to the score for UW-Eau Claire, which now holds a record of 10-14-1 overall and 8-7-0 in conference play. Dayne Hoyord opened the scoring late in the first period with an assist from Kade Peterson. Max Ruoho extended their lead early in the second period with help from Kyler Grundy and Tyler Herzberg.
UW-Stout responded with their first goal at 14:48 into the second period, but Eli Reimer restored a two-goal advantage for UW-Eau Claire before the end of that period, assisted by Ruoho. The Blue Devils narrowed the gap again late in regulation; however, Jordan Randall sealed the win for UW-Eau Claire with under three minutes remaining, aided by Jadon Reimer and Eli Reimer.
Max Gutjahr made 26 saves to secure his team's victory.
As they advance as the No. 3 seed in the WIAC Tournament, UW-Eau Claire will face sixth-seeded Northland College in their opening round at Hobbs Ice Arena on Friday, February 21. The start time is yet to be announced.
