UWEC gymnasts narrowly defeat Winona State

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire gymnastics team achieved a narrow victory over Winona State with a final score of 186.075 to 185.425 at the McPhee Center on Friday. The win was part of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) series.

The Blugolds excelled in two events, winning both the uneven bars and balance beam competitions. They recorded scores of 46.425 on the bars and 47.125 on the beam.

Madison Daly from Las Vegas, Nevada, led her team on the uneven bars with a score of 9.425, securing second place overall. Ella Montgomery from Edina, Minnesota, and Rachel Hettiarachchy from Blaine, Minnesota, tied for third place with identical scores of 9.375.

On the balance beam, Linnea Vasali from York, Pennsylvania took second place with a score of 9.525 while Montgomery followed closely in third place scoring 9.500.

In other events, UW-Eau Claire posted a score of 46.900 in the floor exercise and a 45.625 on the vault competition. Anna Preussner from Johnsburg, Illinois, and Emily Leese from Overland Park, Kansas tied for second place in the floor exercise each scoring 9.500 points.

Rachel Hettiarachchy also led her team in the vault competition with a fourth-place finish scoring 9.350 points.

Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will host Hamline at their final home meet of the season on Friday, February 21st at 6 p.m., marking Senior Night for their athletes.
