The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has recognized the outstanding performance of Zak McPhee from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. McPhee, hailing from Duluth, Minnesota, was named the wrestling athlete of the week for February 3-9. This accolade was decided by an anonymous vote among WIAC head coaches.
McPhee's recognition comes after his impressive showing at the Don Parker Memorial Open on February 8. Competing in the 184-pound category, he emerged victorious with a perfect 4-0 record at the tournament. Notably, McPhee defeated two opponents whom he had previously lost to earlier in the season. His path to victory included one pin and one major decision. In the semifinals, he overcame Andrew McMonagle from North Dakota State University with a score of 12-4 and secured his title by defeating Tyson Meyer from St. Cloud State University (Minnesota) with a 7-3 decision in the finals.
Supporters can follow McPhee and his team throughout their season on Blugolds.com or through their app, Blugold Sports, as well as on social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
