The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team secured a decisive 10-0 victory over Northland College in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Wednesday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds took control early, scoring six goals in the first period against the LumberJills.
UW-Eau Claire, with a record of 16-7-0 overall and 8-2-0 in conference play, netted four goals within the initial ten minutes. They completed their scoring efforts by the end of the second period, narrowly missing out on matching the program's all-time scoring record.
Quinn Hartmetz from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and Madisyn Krumholz from Burnsville, Minnesota, each scored twice to lead their team. Hartmetz scored in both the first and second periods, while Krumholz added her two goals in the second period.
Maddie Hulter and Kylie Wiltse contributed significantly with two assists each. Six other Blugolds players also found the net: Lauren Ballinger, Ava Johansson, Adrienne Hansen, Kenzie Keller, Keira Bolt, and Ellie Andersen. In total, eight different players recorded at least one assist during the game.
Goalkeeper Alexa Backmann made two saves to secure a shutout victory for UW-Eau Claire as they outshot Northland College 42-2.
The series continues on Saturday, February 15th at Hobbs Ice Arena at 2 p.m., where UW-Eau Claire will host Cancer Awareness Night.
