Carter Lichtsinn, a junior from Olathe, Kansas, has been named UW-Eau Claire Athletics' Blugold of the Week, an honor sponsored by BSN Sports/Nike. Lichtsinn is majoring in Exercise Science and chose UW-Eau Claire for its proximity to family and the opportunity to continue playing basketball.
Discussing his approach to balancing academics and athletics, Lichtsinn emphasizes the importance of time management and prioritization. "Time management and not procrastinating. Staying ahead of things and not waiting till the last minute definitely saves you time and stress, along with knowing priorities and making responsible decisions with your time," he stated.
Reflecting on his athletic journey at UW-Eau Claire, Lichtsinn takes pride in progressing from a walk-on player to a starter. "Freshman year I didn't play at all and sometimes didn't even get reps in practice," he shared. "Sticking it out through that and continuing to work hard to eventually become a starter is something I'm really proud of."
Lichtsinn's favorite snack during games is Welch's fruit snacks, while tennis is listed as one of his hidden talents. His dream job is to become a sports physical therapist. If given the chance to travel anywhere, he would choose Spain or Japan. He expressed interest in spending a day with professional athlete LeBron James.
Offering advice to fellow student-athletes, Lichtsinn said: "Get out of your comfort zone, meet new people, try new things, and don't take anything for granted because college will be coming to an end before you know it."
Zach Malvik, Head Men's Basketball Coach at UW-Eau Claire, praised Lichtsinn's dedication: "Carter is one of the hardest working guys we have in our program. He is always spending extra time in the gym trying to improve his game. He's a great teammate, as he's always talking in practice and helping guys get better. He also is willing to do whatever it takes to help us win games."
