The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team faced a defeat against UW-La Crosse, with a final score of 70-53. The game took place on Saturday at Mitchell Hall. The Eagles established an early lead, which the Blugolds could not overcome in this Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchup.
In the first quarter, UW-La Crosse (13-8, 5-5) outscored UW-Eau Claire (7-14, 2-8) with an 18-7 run. The Eagles concluded the period with a strong 13-3 stretch over nearly six minutes. Their lead extended to 15 points during the second quarter. However, UW-Eau Claire managed to narrow the gap before halftime, finishing the half on an 11-5 run and reducing the deficit to nine points at 30-21.
Anna Koth from Maple Grove, Minnesota, hit a three-pointer early in the third quarter for UW-Eau Claire, cutting their deficit to six points. Despite this effort, UW-La Crosse responded with a decisive 12-2 run that pushed their lead back up to 16 points. By the end of the third quarter, their advantage had grown to 18 points, and they maintained double-digit control for the remainder of the game.
Kyla Overskei led UW-Eau Claire with a team-high of 12 points. Anna Koth contributed eight points and seven rebounds while Kailey Tulachka added nine points. The Blugolds shot at a rate of 38% from the floor compared to UW-La Crosse's 42%. The Eagles also held a significant rebounding edge at 46-32.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire is set to visit UW-Platteville on Wednesday, February 12th. The game will start at 7 p.m.
