Blugolds secure narrow victory over Rhodes in spring tennis opener

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team emerged victorious against Rhodes College with a 4-3 win in their spring opener. The match took place on Friday at the Forest Lake Tennis Club in St. Louis. Despite losing the doubles point, the Blugolds secured victory by winning four out of six singles matches.

Samantha Fuchs and Anna Lee achieved success at No. 1 doubles for UW-Eau Claire, but Rhodes claimed the overall doubles point by winning two out of three matches. The Blugolds then turned the tide in singles play, overcoming a 1-0 deficit.

Fuchs triumphed at No. 1 singles with scores of 6-3, 6-3. Lee clinched her match at No. 2 singles after a third-set tiebreaker, finishing with scores of 6-2, 4-6, 1-0. Liv Herzog won her match at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-4, 6-1.

Reese Burton sealed the dual for UW-Eau Claire by winning her match at No. 6 singles with scores of 6-2, 6-2.

The Blugolds are scheduled to face sixth-ranked WashU next at Forest Lake Tennis Club on Saturday, February 8th, starting at 8 p.m.
