UW-Eau Claire falls to River Falls in OT after leading comeback

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team faced a tough loss against UW-River Falls, with a final score of 3-2 in overtime. The match took place on Friday at Hunt Arena as part of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

Initially, both teams remained scoreless through the first period. Early in the second period, UW-River Falls broke the deadlock with a goal. The Blugolds responded quickly when Tyler Herzberg scored less than two minutes later, tying the game at 1-1.

Later in the second period, Leo Bacallao put UW-Eau Claire ahead with a go-ahead goal assisted by Will Brenner and Colin Stein. However, their lead was short-lived as UW-River Falls equalized during a power play with 12:43 remaining in the third period.

The game extended into overtime where UW-River Falls clinched victory with an even-strength goal in its final minute. Ethan Roberts stood out for UW-Eau Claire by making 31 saves throughout the game.

Both teams will meet again on Saturday for another match at Hunt Arena starting at 7:05 p.m.
