The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire gymnastics team secured a victory against Simpson College with a score of 189.375-185.750 on Thursday at the McPhee Center. This win marked the Blugolds' first triumph of the season during the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual.
In this meet, UW-Eau Claire excelled by winning each event as a team and achieving first-place finishes in three out of four events individually.
Cadence Cordova, a sophomore from Boise, Idaho, led the Blugolds on the vault with a score of 9.600, securing second place overall. The team achieved a total score of 47.275 in this event.
Madison Daly, also a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nevada, claimed victory on the uneven bars with her performance scoring 9.575, contributing to the team's 47.025 score for that event.
Meghan Dahlin from Holly, Michigan, and Linnea Vasali from York, Pennsylvania shared first place on the beam with identical scores of 9.675 each. The team collectively scored 47.450 in this category.
Senior Kelsey Donovan from Glen Ellyn, Illinois tied for first place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.600. The Blugolds achieved their highest team score of the night in this event with 47.625 points.
There were no all-around competitors participating in this dual meet against Simpson College.
This victory was not only significant as it was their first win of the season but also marked their third consecutive win over Simpson in three seasons.
The next competition for UW-Eau Claire is scheduled for Friday, February 14th when they host Winona State at home for another WIAC dual meet during Alumni Night at McPhee Center starting at 6 p.m.
