Colin McClowry, a senior from Neenah, Wisconsin, has been named UW-Eau Claire Athletics' Blugold of the Week. This recognition is presented by BSN Sports/Nike.
McClowry majors in Journalism with a minor in Multimedia Communications. He chose UW-Eau Claire because he wanted to compete immediately and develop as an athlete. "Chip Schneider was the best coach I met with on college visits," McClowry stated. The track uniforms also played a role in his decision.
Balancing academics and athletics comes naturally to McClowry. "I function better when I'm busy," he said, explaining that school provides a break from track and vice versa.
Reflecting on his athletic career, McClowry is proudest of placing fourth in the 4x400m Relay at the 2022 Indoor Nationals. This achievement helped secure a team championship win for UW-Eau Claire.
When it comes to pre-competition snacks, McClowry prefers nerd's gummy clusters for quick energy but avoids eating before running a 400m race due to past mistakes.
McClowry shared some personal insights, revealing his unique talent for catching marshmallows in his mouth and undefeated status in the game of Catan. His dream job is to become a Collegiate Athletic Director or work on a cruise ship managing the soft-serve ice cream machine if that fails.
He expressed interest in traveling to Spain and spending time with Pat McAfee, former athlete and podcast host. For incoming student-athletes, McClowry advises not letting others dictate their potential: "Set a new precedent if the current one sucks."
Head Men's Indoor Track & Field Coach Chip Schneider praised McClowry as both an exceptional athlete and an invaluable team member who contributes significantly behind the scenes without seeking recognition. "Colin is also the best of the best," Schneider remarked about his integrity and modesty.
