The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team secured a victory at the Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational in Wheaton, Illinois. The Blugolds, ranked sixth nationally, won their second title in four years at this prestigious small-school wrestling tournament.

Zach Sato and Jared Stricker emerged as individual champions for the Blugolds. Sato claimed the 149-pound title with decisive victories, including a pin against Dalton Monger from Messiah and a technical fall over Cael Vanderhorst from Ohio Northern. This marked Sato's first career title at the Wheaton Invitational.

Stricker triumphed in the 174-pound category and was honored with the George Olson Outstanding Wrestler Award for his performance. He achieved two wins on Saturday, defeating Ryan Riser of UW-Whitewater by technical fall and securing a decision over Dejon Glaster of Millikin in the finals.

In addition to Sato and Stricker's victories, several other Blugold wrestlers placed well. Izzy Balsiger finished second at 125 pounds after falling to Jalen Dunson of UW-Whitewater in the finals. Niall Schoenfelder took third place at 184 pounds following two consolation bracket wins. Landon Church placed fifth at 157 pounds due to a medical forfeit win, while Ian Pepple finished sixth at 197 pounds after an initial victory by pin.

Finn Bloomquist and Calvin Singewald also contributed to the team's success by placing seventh and eighth respectively in their weight classes.

The Blugolds will conclude their WIAC dual schedule by hosting UW-Platteville on February 7 at the new Sonnentag Event Center. The event will include Senior Night celebrations.

"Follow the Blugolds all season long at Blugolds.com or on our app, Blugold Sports," stated team representatives regarding ongoing coverage.
