Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis opens spring season with victory over Concordia

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team began its spring season with a victory, defeating Concordia University Wisconsin 7-0. The match took place on Saturday at the John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center.

The Blugolds achieved a clean sweep by winning all six singles matches and securing the single doubles point available. In the No. 1 singles match, Ethan Wurtzel from Menomonie, Wisconsin, won in straight sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-4. Otto Schluter from Henfield, England; Sam Murillo from Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Ethan Leeser from Rochester, Minnesota also claimed victories in straight sets at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 positions respectively.

Pablo Rincón from Bogotá, Colombia and Billy Hughes secured their wins through third-set tiebreaks in the remaining singles matches.

In doubles competition, Wurtzel paired with Andrew Mueller from Eau Claire to win the No. 1 match with a score of 7-6. Murillo and Rincón won their match at No. 2 with a score of 6-3 while Leeser and Schluter completed the sweep by winning at No. 3 with a score of 6-3.

The Blugolds will return to action on Friday, February 14 when they host Bethel (Minn.). The dual is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., again at the John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center.
