Jayne Satre, a sophomore from Mankato, Minnesota, has been named UW-Eau Claire Athletics' Blugold of the Week. This recognition is presented by BSN Sports/Nike. Satre is majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders and is actively involved in several campus organizations including the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA), math club, Cru, and co-president of the UWEC Word Game Enthusiast Club.
When asked about her choice to attend UW-Eau Claire, Satre said, "I chose UW-Eau Claire because they offered the academic program I was interested in, along with a swim team that fit what I was looking for. The coaches, team, and faculty were all very welcoming. Eau Claire felt like a place where I could see myself thrive!"
Satre balances her role as a student-athlete by setting goals for both academics and swimming. She shared that one of her proudest moments was winning the conference meet during her freshman year. "Being there with my amazing teammates and swimming fast made the meet extra special!" she recalled.
In addition to swimming, Satre enjoys theater and can speak in different accents on command. Her dream job is to become a Speech Language Pathologist with hopes of opening a private practice and becoming a published author.
Satre admires professional swimmer Katie Ledecky and would choose to spend a day with her to learn about her experiences as both a college and Olympic swimmer.
Her peers speak highly of her contributions to the team. Amanda Hyland described Satre as "an amazing teammate" who brings positivity and dedication to practice. Head Coach Annie Ryder praised Satre's leadership skills saying she has "set up all the team events for our recruiting weekends" and highlighted her impact on future success.
