The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team secured a 4-2 victory over UW-Superior at Hobbs Ice Arena on Saturday. This marks the Blugolds' third consecutive win, enhancing their record to 4-1-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
In the early stages of the game, UW-Eau Claire took control by scoring twice within the first eight minutes. McKenna Sandberg initiated the scoring for the Blugolds just over three minutes into the match. Ava Bullert extended their lead to 2-0 with less than 12 minutes remaining in the first period. Despite a goal from UW-Superior later in the period, UW-Eau Claire maintained a 2-1 advantage going into intermission.
Kara Burke added another goal for UW-Eau Claire six minutes into the second period, reinstating their two-goal lead. Although UW-Superior responded shortly after, Lauren Ballinger's power play goal early in the third period secured the win for the Blugolds.
Maddie Hulter contributed with two assists during the game, while Tegan Swanson made 18 saves as goalie.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will face Bethel (Minn.) at home on Wednesday, December 11. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena.
