Blugold swim teams perform strongly at Rochester Invite

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded their participation in the Rochester Invite on Saturday. The men's team secured third place out of seven, while the women's team achieved fourth place among ten competitors. Both teams were the highest-ranking Division III participants.

"Our midseason meet is always a meet we expect the kids to get up and compete against some very fast Division II and other Division III programs," said Head Coach Annie Ryder. "Our kids performed extremely well and swam and dove in a way to set us up for success at the end of the season. This meet is a chance for us to suit up and see where we are as a team and what we need to develop for the end. We had many lifetime best and season best times across the board and the team. I am proud of the way they competed and showed up for their team."

Elaina Plonis from Macomb, Michigan, and Molly Hosack from Cedarburg, Wisconsin, led the Blugolds with individual victories. Plonis won the women's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.44, while Hosack claimed victory in the women's 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:25.94, both surpassing several Division II swimmers.

Ben Keller from Cedarburg took second place in the men's 200-yard butterfly event. Ian Olson from Chippewa Falls placed third in the men's 200-yard breaststroke, while Kaden Zink from Watertown finished third in the men's 1,650-yard freestyle. Emma Vogen from Apple Valley achieved fourth place in the women's 1,650-yard freestyle.

The Blugolds will next compete on January 18 against St. Norbert College at home at McPhee Center.
