Last-second layup secures win for UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team secured a narrow victory over UW-Superior with a last-second layup by Kyla Overskei. The game, held at the Sonnentag Event Center, ended with a score of 58-56 in favor of the Blugolds.

Overskei's decisive shot came with just two seconds remaining, concluding a comeback from a 10-point deficit. This win marks the second consecutive victory for UW-Eau Claire, bringing their record to 2-5.

The Blugolds faced challenges early on, trailing 38-28 with six minutes left in the third quarter. However, they managed to erase this deficit through a strong performance spanning the final 16 minutes. A critical moment came when Reanna Hutchinson made a go-ahead three-pointer late in regulation.

As time dwindled down and both teams exchanged shots, UW-Superior tied the game at 56 points. It was then that Overskei drove down the left baseline to secure her game-winning layup. UW-Superior could not respond before time expired.

Overskei led her team with 14 points, along with four rebounds and three assists. Hutchinson contributed 11 points and five rebounds, while Anna Koth added seven points and four rebounds. The Blugolds shot 44% from the field and successfully converted nine out of eleven free throw attempts.

UW-Eau Claire will next play at home against the University of Northwestern (Minn.) on Wednesday, December 11th at 7 p.m., also at the Sonnentag Event Center.
