The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team secured a 6-2 victory over UW-Stevens Point in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) game on Thursday. The Blugolds dominated the third period with five goals, breaking the 1-1 tie from the second intermission.
Ellie Anderson led the charge for the Blugolds with two goals. Her first goal came early in the second period, assisted by McKenna Sandberg and Keira Bolt. The Pointers managed to equalize later in the same period, setting up a decisive final 20 minutes.
Ashley Wagenbach broke the deadlock with a power-play goal at the start of the third period. Ava Johansson extended their lead four minutes later. Samantha Bandholz added another power-play goal, followed by Anderson's second score shortly thereafter.
Despite a late goal from UW-Stevens Point, Rachel Mirwald sealed the win for UW-Eau Claire with a final goal in the last two minutes of play. Kylie Wiltse and Sam Moehle contributed two assists each to support their team's effort. Goalie Tegan Swanson made eight saves to secure her win.
The Blugolds will next face UW-Superior at home on Saturday, December 7, at Hobbs Ice Arena.
