UW-Eau Claire women's basketball earns first win against Bethany Lutheran

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team secured its first win of the season by defeating Bethany Lutheran College 71-53 on Tuesday. Three players from the Blugolds scored in double figures, contributing significantly to the victory.

Kyla Overskei, a junior from Maple Grove, Minnesota, led all scorers with 18 points. This marked her fourth consecutive game scoring in double figures. She also contributed eight rebounds and two assists. Reanna Hutchinson, a junior from Eau Claire, Wisconsin/North, added 17 points along with six rebounds and three assists. Lauren Meudt, a junior from Waunakee, Wisconsin, finished with 14 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

The Blugolds (1-5) overcame an early deficit after trailing 10-4 at the start of the game. A subsequent 9-3 run allowed UW-Eau Claire to erase the deficit and they did not trail again for the remainder of the match. By the end of the first quarter, UW-Eau Claire led 23-15 and extended their lead to 37-23 by halftime while holding Bethany Lutheran to just eight points in the second quarter.

Throughout the second half, UW-Eau Claire maintained a double-digit lead over Bethany Lutheran (1-6). The Blugolds shot 39% from the field and forced their opponents into committing 19 turnovers.

Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will host UW-Superior on Saturday, December 7 at Sonnentag Event Center with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m., coinciding with Parents Night celebrations.
