The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team faced a narrow defeat against Maryville College at the Marietta Shrine Tournament. The game concluded with a score of 68-64 in favor of Maryville, who secured their win through a late surge.
The Blugolds had maintained a one-point lead with just over a minute remaining, but Maryville's decisive 6-2 run sealed the outcome. The match was closely contested throughout, with neither team managing to establish a double-digit lead. UW-Eau Claire's largest advantage was nine points, achieved near the end of the first half.
Despite leading for most of the second half, UW-Eau Claire lost their grip when Maryville took their only lead on a jumper with just over a minute left. Cade Hall made an effort to close the gap with eight seconds remaining, but Maryville's successful free throws ended any hopes of a comeback.
Carter Huschka stood out for UW-Eau Claire, earning all-tournament honors by scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Andre Renta contributed 15 points along with five rebounds and assists each. Hall added seven points and 11 rebounds to his team's efforts.
The Blugolds managed to shoot at 43% efficiency and held an edge in rebounding with a count of 44-34.
