The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's cross country team secured a fifth-place finish at the NCAA North Regional event held in Northfield, Minnesota. The team's performance was highlighted by three runners earning all-region honors.
The Blugolds accumulated 178 points during the competition. UW-La Crosse claimed victory in the regional with a total of 40 points.
Three athletes from UW-Eau Claire were recognized for their performances. Mason Shea, a senior from River Falls, Wisconsin, led his team by finishing in 13th place with a time of 24:51.1. Jack Hesse-Withbroe, a junior from Stillwater, Minnesota, placed 28th with a time of 25:12.8. Sam Verkerke, another senior from White Bear Lake, Minnesota, finished in 32nd place clocking in at 25:16.0.
Trevor LaMirande and Jesse Peterson also contributed to the team's score. LaMirande completed the race in 52nd place with a time of 25:39.0 while Peterson finished just behind him in 53rd place at 25:39.8.
The announcement for qualifiers advancing to the NCAA Championships is scheduled for Sunday, November 17. The championships will take place on Saturday, November 23, in Terre Haute, Indiana.
