UW-Eau Claire women’s hockey dominates Northland in WIAC opener

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team achieved a decisive victory over Northland College with an 11-0 win in their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener. The game took place on Friday at the Bay Area Civic Center in Ashland, Wisconsin. This victory places the 11th-ranked Blugolds just one goal short of their program record for most goals scored in a single game.

In the match, UW-Eau Claire (3-1-0, 1-0-0) dominated from the start, scoring five goals in the first period and maintaining control throughout. They added three more goals in both the second and third periods. Gretta Pioske, Sadie Long, and Kenzie Keller each contributed two goals to the team's success. Notably, Pioske's contributions marked her first goals as a Blugold.

Sam Moehle had an impressive performance with four points, scoring once and assisting three other goals. Keira Bolt and Maddie Hulter also provided significant support with two assists each. Eight different players scored during the game, including Ella Hansen who netted her first career goal for UW-Eau Claire. Additional scorers included Samantha Bandholz, Ellie Anderson, and Ava Webster.

Goalkeeper Alexa Backmann was instrumental in securing the win by stopping all eight shots she encountered.

Looking ahead, the Blugolds are set to continue their WIAC road trip with a game against UW-Superior on Saturday, November 16th at 2 p.m.
