A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Richland Center regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request, made by Chippewa Valley Times, sought a list of all voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and specifically asked for the information in an electronic format. As a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Chippewa Valley Times believe that access to public records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities.
These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
