UW-Eau Claire athletes excel at track meets setting records and securing podium finishes

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire track and field teams participated in two separate meets on Friday: the St. Francis Fighting Last Chance Invite in Illinois and the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open in Wisconsin.

At the St. Francis meet, Mason Shea achieved a season-best time of 9:00.80 in the 3k Steeplechase, positioning him as a contender for the NCAA Championships later this month.

In Wisconsin, at the Eagle Open, the men's 4x100m relay team set a new school record for the second consecutive week. The team members Piontek, Odom, Jankuski, and Klechefski secured second place with a time of 40.44 seconds. Freshman Ally Kakes also earned a second-place finish in her event, completing the 200m dash in 22.74 seconds.

Other notable performances included Josiah Ziebell winning the 400m Hurdles with a time of 54.26 seconds and Tommy Mestnik claiming victory in the Javelin with a throw of 51.45 meters.

Men's top results were highlighted by Yakob Ekoue who took first place in Discus (52.74m), Hammer (57.26m), and Shot Put (17.36m). Gage Stankiewicz finished third in Discus with a distance of 51 meters.

For women, Ayden Fleeharty placed second in Pole Vault at 3.63 meters while Teagan Jones secured third place in Hammer Throw with a mark of 55.37 meters.

The Blugolds will next compete at Augustana University on May 16 as their final preparation before the NCAA National Championships.
