The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's softball team ended their season after a 5-1 loss to UW-Stout in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) on Friday. Despite efforts to rally late in the game, the Blugolds could not overcome an early deficit.
In the first inning, UW-Stout took a 1-0 lead with an RBI single. The Blue Devils extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning with two more RBIs. The Blugolds remained scoreless until Kenna Strunsee hit her first home run of the season in the sixth inning, narrowing the gap to 3-1.
However, UW-Stout added two runs in the seventh inning, leaving UW-Eau Claire with a four-run deficit going into their final half-inning. Megan Patterson and Siri Springer attempted a comeback by drawing walks, but three consecutive outs concluded their efforts and finalized the score at 5-1.
The Blugolds finished their season with an overall record of 18-18 and a WIAC record of 7-9. This marks their 23rd consecutive appearance in the WIAC tournament under head coach Leslie Huntingon's leadership, despite it being only their fourth season under her tenure where they did not reach at least 20 wins.
