The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team faced defeat in a doubleheader against UW-La Crosse on Friday at Carson Park. The Blugolds lost the first game 11-1 in seven innings and fell 10-2 in the second.
In Game 1, the Blugolds initially took the lead with a run scored due to a UW-La Crosse error. However, the Eagles quickly gained control, scoring five runs in the third inning and continuing to score in every subsequent inning. The Blugolds managed only four hits throughout the game.
Drew Salyers from Centennial, Colorado led UW-Eau Claire with a single, stolen base, and a run scored. Nicholas Meuser pitched for four innings and struck out three batters.
During Game 2, UW-La Crosse established an early lead of 5-0 after three innings. The Blugolds responded by scoring two runs in the fourth inning through an RBI fielder's choice by Austin Buck and another error by UW-La Crosse. Eli Keirstead achieved the team's only hit of this game with a single in the seventh inning.
Xavier Estrada made his season debut as a starter for UW-Eau Claire, pitching 4.2 innings while allowing four earned runs and striking out five opponents. Ty Schafer provided relief pitching for 4.1 innings without conceding any earned runs and recorded one strikeout.
The series will continue on Saturday, May 4th with another doubleheader starting at noon at Carson Park. This event marks both Senior Day and Alumni Day for the Blugolds as they conclude their season.
