The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory against UW-Oshkosh, maintaining their unbeaten status in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The match took place on Saturday at Titan Stadium, marking the Blugolds' second consecutive shutout and placing them in second position in the conference standings.
During a game dominated by defensive strategies, the Blugolds (6-6-4, 2-0-3) achieved a crucial breakthrough in the second half. Kennedy Boll made a significant defensive contribution by saving a Titans penalty in the 56th minute. She managed to dive to her right and deflect the ball before collecting it again to keep the score level.
Anna Lorenzana scored the decisive goal of the match. Caroline Curran executed a well-timed flick-on at the top of the box, finding Lorenzana unmarked. The sophomore midfielder capitalized on this opportunity by volleying the ball into the net in the 61st minute.
The Blugolds dominated with a 17-5 advantage in shots and led 7-2 in shots on goal. Boll completed two saves during her 45 minutes on the field, while Bella Jones contributed during the first half to secure a clean sheet for their team.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire is set to host WIAC leader UW-La Crosse on Saturday, October 26, at Simpson Field. The event will include Senior Day celebrations before commencing at 2 p.m.
