The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football team faced a setback against No. 22/24 UW-La Crosse, losing 34-7 in their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchup at Carson Park. Despite the defeat, senior quarterback Harry Roubidoux achieved a personal milestone by becoming the second quarterback in program history to throw 50 career touchdown passes.
The Eagles dominated the game by scoring the first 34 points, though they only began to widen their lead significantly in the third quarter. By halftime, UW-La Crosse was ahead 10-0. The Blugolds showed strong defensive efforts early on, including a crucial fourth-down stop in the red zone during the first half. The Eagles' initial points came from a field goal in the first quarter and a nine-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, UW-La Crosse extended their lead with two aerial touchdowns, pushing the score to 24-0. They added another field goal and a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to solidify their win. The Blugolds managed to score late in the game when Roubidoux connected with Isaac Garside for a 14-yard touchdown pass, marking Roubidoux's 50th career touchdown pass and Garside's 15th career touchdown reception.
Roubidoux completed 16 of his 24 passes for a total of 145 yards but also had two interceptions. Franko Williams contributed with two receptions totaling 57 yards, while Garside finished with four catches for 52 yards. The Eagles successfully contained UW-Eau Claire's running game, limiting them to just 28 rushing yards.
On defense, Peyton Erikson led UW-Eau Claire with a career-high of 11 tackles and recovered a fumble. Brady Hoffner and Jack Tomkins both forced fumbles during the game.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will face off against UW-Stout on Saturday, October 26 at Williams Stadium in Menomonie as part of their ongoing rivalry known as "War on I-94."
