The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team extended its winning streak to three games with a 3-0 victory over Augustana College at the Papa John's Invite, held at UW-Stevens Point. The Blugolds secured the win by taking all three sets in a competitive match against the Vikings.
In the first set, with the score tied at 15, UW-Eau Claire managed a 7-2 run to gain a lead of 22-17. Although Augustana narrowed the gap to one point at 24-23, a service error allowed UW-Eau Claire to clinch the set.
The second set saw UW-Eau Claire trailing 13-12 before launching a decisive 5-0 run initiated by Abby Stanwood's kill. This gave them control for the remainder of the set, which was concluded with a kill from Bailey Leeke.
During the third set, after another tie at 13 points each, Leeke's kill spurred a 5-1 run that kept UW-Eau Claire ahead until nearly the end. Despite Augustana leveling the score at 24-all, Stanwood's kill and Darienne Andre's ace ended the match in favor of UW-Eau Claire.
Leeke and Mya Cinnamo led their team with twelve kills each. Ella Kiebel provided thirty-two assists while Kaitlyn Erickson contributed twelve digs. The Blugolds achieved an attacking percentage of .210 and improved their season record to fourteen wins against six losses.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will face No.19 ranked UW-Platteville on October 16 in Platteville. They aim to continue their success against ranked opponents, having won their last two matches under similar conditions. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
