The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team secured a victory against another ranked opponent, defeating No. 21 North Park with a score of 3-2 on Friday. This marks the Blugolds' third win over a ranked team this season.
In the match, UW-Eau Claire won the sets 25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 20-25, and 17-15. The first set saw the Blugolds pulling away from a tie at 22 with contributions from Bailey Leeke and Abby Stanwood. The Vikings took the second set with a late surge.
The Blugolds started strong in the third set, leading early and maintaining their advantage despite North Park's attempts to close the gap. However, North Park evened things up by winning the fourth set after an initial strong run.
In the decisive fifth set, UW-Eau Claire initially led but faced resistance as North Park saved four match points. Ultimately, errors from North Park allowed UW-Eau Claire to clinch the win.
Ella Kiebel recorded her second consecutive match with 50 assists and shared top digs honors with Stanwood at 19 each. Leeke contributed significantly with 22 kills and 17 digs.
Next on their schedule is a match against Augustana College at UW-Stevens Point's Papa John's Invite on Saturday, October 12.
