The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team secured a 2-0 victory against UW-River Falls on Wednesday at Simpson Field. This win marked their first triumph in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) this season, earning them three crucial points and moving them to third place in the standings with three conference matches remaining.
The Blugolds, with a record of 5-6-4 overall and 1-0-3 in the WIAC, scored twice in the second half to maintain their unbeaten status in the conference after starting with three draws.
Molly Henderson opened the scoring in the 48th minute. "She controlled a ball into the box from Haley Von Rentzell and knocked it past the keeper to put UW-Eau Claire ahead 1-0."
Emma Donovan added another goal in the 82nd minute. "Elise Pinewski swung a corner kick in from the left side, and Donovan met it with her head and turned it into the net to make it a 2-0 game."
Goalkeepers Bella Jones and Kennedy Boll contributed to a shutout performance. Each played one half and made two saves each. The Blugolds had an advantage over their opponents with 13 shots compared to eight by UW-River Falls, including seven shots on target versus four.
This victory marks UW-Eau Claire's fourth consecutive win against UW-River Falls.
The Blugolds will continue their WIAC campaign with an away game at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, October 19, at 7 p.m.
