The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football team secured a decisive 41-0 victory over UW-Stevens Point during their Homecoming game at Carson Park. The Blugolds capitalized on a strong third quarter, scoring 21 points and relying on a solid defense to claim their first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) win of the season.
In the final minutes of the third quarter, Demetrius Bergmann scored a two-yard rushing touchdown, followed by Caden Tonsager's 31-yard interception return for a touchdown, extending the lead to 31 points. The Blugold defense was instrumental in the shutout, forcing three turnovers and limiting the Pointers to just 141 yards of offense and nine first downs.
UW-Eau Claire had established a 10-0 lead by halftime with Bergmann's four-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter and Connor Radaj's 26-yard field goal before the break. Quarterback Harry Roubidoux completed 16 of his 26 passes for 189 yards, including a touchdown pass to Isaac Garside in the third quarter.
Sam Schradle added to the score with a three-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, while Satchel Johnson capped off the scoring with a 44-yard field goal. Overall, UW-Eau Claire outgained UW-Stevens Point with an impressive 407 offensive yards compared to their opponent's 141.
Bergmann achieved two rushing touchdowns, marking his first career scores for UW-Eau Claire. He finished with 49 yards on 13 carries. Christian Torgerson contributed an additional 50 rushing yards on nine carries. Garside led in receiving with nine catches for 95 yards.
Defensively, Tonsager led with seven tackles and also recorded half a sack alongside his interception return for a touchdown. Brady Hoffner added four tackles and one sack. Noah Nephew secured an interception, while Aidan Drost recovered a fumble forced by Porter Mihelich.
This victory marked UW-Eau Claire's fourth consecutive win against UW-Stevens Point and their first Homecoming win since 2019.
Looking ahead, the Blugolds will host another WIAC game against No.12-ranked UW-La Crosse at Carson Park on Saturday, October 19th at 11:30 a.m.
