The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's swimming and diving teams began their season with a successful meet against UW-Oshkosh. The men's team achieved a decisive victory with a score of 184-50, while the women's team won 166-77.
Both teams are aiming to defend their titles in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), with the women having secured consecutive league championships previously.
Molly Hosack led the women's team by winning both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Sydney McGuine, Amber Winter, and Kiara Bissen each contributed two victories, including being part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team along with Faith Oswald. McGuine also triumphed in the 50-yard freestyle, Winter in the 200-yard IM, and Bissen in the 100-yard breaststroke. Additionally, Madeleine Hammond, Grace Schnabl, Molly Sheehan, and Olivia Richetto were victorious in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay.
On the men's side, Kadin Denner and Blake Wallen each claimed two individual event wins. Denner excelled in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Wallen swept diving competitions on one- and three-meter boards. Ben Keller was integral to both his first-place finishes in individual events like the 100-yard butterfly and as part of relay successes.
Jack Gunderson won an individual event in addition to contributing to a relay win alongside Ian Olson who participated in two relay victories. Henry Williams and Rafael DaCosta helped secure another relay win for their team.
The Blugold men’s and women’s teams will continue their season on October 25th at UW-Stevens Point's Aquatics Center starting at 6 p.m.
