Blugolds draw with Pioneers after late equalizer

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team faced off against UW-Platteville on Saturday, resulting in a 2-2 tie at Simpson Field. The Blugolds managed to overturn an early deficit to take the lead, but the Pioneers equalized in the final 15 minutes.

UW-Platteville opened the scoring in the seventh minute, taking a 1-0 lead. Emma Donovan responded for UW-Eau Claire by leveling the score in the 18th minute with her second goal of the season. "Donovan collected a loose ball in the middle of the box and knocked it into the net," according to reports from blugolds.com.

At halftime, both teams were tied at one goal each. Sophie Hubbard then put UW-Eau Claire ahead in the 61st minute with a long-range strike assisted by Elise Pinewski. "She collected a pass from Elise Pinewski as she entered the attacking third," noted blugolds.com.

Despite strong defensive efforts, UW-Platteville converted a cross into a tying goal in the 75th minute. Throughout the match, UW-Eau Claire held an advantage with 11 shots on goal compared to Platteville's six.

Goalkeepers Kennedy Boll and Bella Jones contributed saves for UW-Eau Claire, with Boll making three saves and Jones adding one save during their respective halves.

The result leaves UW-Eau Claire with a record of 4-6-4 this season and 0-0-3 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play. The game also marked Parents Day for the Blugolds.

Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will host another WIAC matchup against UW-River Falls on Wednesday, October 16 at Simpson Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
