Patti See, a writer and advisor at UW-Eau Claire, will present her work on October 17, 2024, as part of the "Thursdays at the U" series. Her presentation titled "'Here on Lake Hallie': Writing About Where You Live" will take place from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall located in Ritzinger Hall. The event is accessible both in-person and via livestream at ricelaketv.com.

See's essay collection "Here on Lake Hallie: In Praise of Barflies, Fix-It Guys, and Other Folks from Our Hometown," published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press in 2022, focuses on life in a small lake community. During her presentation, she will share stories about her experiences living among unique neighbors.

Apart from her essays, See is known for her blog “Our Long Goodbye: One Family’s Experiences with Alzheimer’s Disease,” which has reached readers across more than 100 countries. She contributes regularly to "Wisconsin Life" on Wisconsin Public Radio and writes a monthly column titled "Sawdust Stories" for the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram.

In addition to her writing endeavors, Patti See serves as the lead advisor at UW-Eau Claire’s Advising, Retention and Career Center. She also teaches courses related to women’s studies and honors programs. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from UW-Eau Claire.

The weekly "Thursdays at the U" series is open to everyone without charge due to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Attendees do not need seating reservations or parking permits for these events. For those unable to attend live sessions, most lectures are archived online for later viewing.

Following this session with Patti See, Jonathan Fritz will present “Ghosts, Monsters & Ghouls” on October 31 as part of the ongoing series.
