The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team marked a significant milestone by achieving their first victory in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The Blugolds defeated UW-Platteville 2-0 on Friday night at Simpson Field, securing their inaugural WIAC win.
In this historic match for the program, Nathan Donovan was instrumental, scoring both goals. His first came early in the game, during the fourth minute, following assists from teammates Carter Thiesfeld and Sean Redmond. Donovan's second goal came after he successfully converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute.
Defensively, UW-Eau Claire limited UW-Platteville to just three shots on goal, ensuring their fifth shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Spencer Banks contributed with three saves. The Blugolds had a total of 14 shots compared to the Pioneers' 11.
The game saw a total of 31 fouls and seven yellow cards issued.
UW-Eau Claire's record now stands at 9-1-2 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play. Their next match is scheduled against Simpson College on Sunday, October 6.
