The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team returned to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Wednesday, visiting UW-La Crosse. In a competitive match between two leading teams in the conference, UW-Eau Claire emerged victorious with a narrow 5-4 win over the Eagles, marking their third WIAC victory of the fall season.
Samantha Fuchs and Anna Lee both delivered strong performances for the Blugolds. Each went undefeated on the day, winning their singles matches and securing an 8-4 victory in #1 doubles. Liv Herzog also contributed significantly by winning her #5 singles match and participating in a victory at #3 doubles.
Morgan Dekan partnered with Herzog for that #3 doubles win, allowing the Blugolds to enter the singles matches with a 2-1 lead. This win handed UW-La Crosse their first loss of the season. Currently, UW-Eau Claire holds second place in the conference standings with a 3-1 record.
Looking ahead, the Blugolds will host more WIAC matches this weekend against UW-Stevens Point and UW-Oshkosh on October 4th and 5th at Altoona's 10th Street Park. The match against Stevens Point is set for Friday at 3 p.m., while Saturday's contest against Oshkosh will begin at 2 p.m.
